On the Support Laurel Mountain Facebook page we are beginning to organize a PA DCNR Volunteer Conservation Group. The focus of the group will be trail work, maybe help with fundraising for the Midway Cabin restoration project or what ever projects we decide to do. We are just in the talking phase but hopefully things will pan out soon. So far we have an initial nod from Seven Springs management and the Laurel Mountain State Park manager. Join in the conversation there or start a new one here. I'd love to hear your opinions even if you can't volunteer. Check it out:
The volunteer group is moving along. If you are interested in volunteering or just want to keep informed on work party dates and projects I urge you to fill out a PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Conservation Volunteer application. The information you provide will be used to create the group's official mailing list. The application can be done online using this link:

The first Support Laurel Mountain State Park Glade and Trail Work Day is set for Saturday June 3, 2017 8:00 AM at the Laurel Lodge. Light refreshments will be provided in the morning. State Park and Seven Springs Staff will be on hand and will provide transportation on the mountain as well as other equipment. If you are interested in volunteering you must register as a PA DCNR Conservation Volunteer.
You can register online by using this link:

Registering online will not obligate you in anyway, this purely a volunteer effort, By registering you will be receive via email information about future work dates and projects.
Our first project will be clearing glades between Broadway and Innsbruck with some attention to Lincoln Highway. This project should provide a nice intermediate glade that will be one of the longest in the region. The terrain is already mostly open, covered with mature hardwood forest.
Plans are already underway to restore Midway Cabin. Future projects await your input.
It is not too late to plan a trip to Laurel Mpuntain's glade clearing party. As added incentive, Laurel Moyntain enthusiast Bo Danville, just announced a give a away prize: a 144 Eastbound Bottlegger. We restored the lower half of an old glade former manager under Mellon, Doc DesRoches and family, originally cleared in 1961. The top will be cleared on the next work day, When complete the glade will be about 900 feet long and over 100 feet wide. Where is it? Well, you will have to come to the next glade clearing party to find out.
what was cleared so far has almost no exposed rocks, should be skiable with minimal snow!!!!! fast leaves!

Too bad it didn't work out that way. The only non-retirees that showed up besides the DCNR crew was a mountain biker that was at the wrong DCNR Volunteer Group. The mtn. biker and x/c and crews were just down the road at the Nordic hut. He didn't ski or board.but he was captive and gaves us a hand. We got him over to the right crew after lunch.
Sorry, I just have too much going on to offer any help. I have not been able to get up to the Laurels.
Have you heard any news on the season pass sales?
