I guess if it can happen in WV and PA, it can happen in Colorado.
I don't recall a thing like this happening at a major Colorado ski area in my 25 years of skiing - especially after what was the snowiest January in history ..

My wife and I went to Steamboat for the first time in early February in search of champagne powder. We got 40 degree weather and some rain at the base! It felt like skiing a giant Snowshoe WV in March.
i was actually in Steamboat last week Thurs-Sat and indeed it was not doing well. I am not really surprised ... and as far as weather predictions I also can say that any report of snow heading in might be wrong as while i was there it was supposed to be heavy rain and then 10 inches of snow and it was sunny every day. Locals say that they haven't been able to forecast the weather very well lately.
Skied with a few Steamboat locals (in Utah) last week. They said it was raining back at the boat and mud season was arriving a month early.
