Snowshoe on Facebook has Nov. 24 as Opening Day, 9:00am-4:30pm.  Has the caveat "weather permitting."

Snowshoe usually seems more on top of things than this. First they post one week until opening day on Wednesday, the very next post (Thursday morning) says opening day is TBD. Then they remove the opening day from the home page, but as of this morning the snow report still says November 22. Thanksgiving weekend events still say rope drop on November 22, and you can still buy lift tickets for November 22.

i assume they called people that had reservations through Snowshoe, but unless you look on Facebook the change in plans isn’t obvious

Maybe we have a case of the "Timberline"

The email our GM sent to us stated they would assess things on Monday and make a decision then.

It would be awesome if they could open a run or two up at silver creek for Wednesday and Thursday. I imagine the overhead and snowmaking cost to do that would be significantly lower than the basin

I've been following the weather in Davis, imagine that, and the humidity in Canaan Valley has been remarkably high. Maybe the same down there at the Shoe?

I just checked the weather station at SC.  Only 2 days this month has the avg humidity been less than 75%.  The same period last year had 9 days.  So yes!

Hey, I think we should be happy for Blue Don for his shameful actions ;)

So what will be open? Probably Spruce and a few greens with a couple features?

In full disclosure she lives 4.5 hours away and they do not have cable.  How the heck can you stuff yourself with turkey / dressing and not watch football?

I think you are right on wgo with the slope predictions.  I think it's more about getting together with a few ski buds, make a few runs, drink a few beers .......

Hope I didn't sound dismissive. I would love to get out on whatever is available. I will be in Florida with in-laws, though.

Thinking of heading to Snowshoe for a couple of days if I can find reasonable lodging.  If they open Spruce as discussed above how much vertical is involved in what they probably will open?  Never skied there before.

Tom - My ski trax usually shows 700+ when we do Spruce.

I'll PM you about lodging ....

It's good to see they will open Friday, but we are going down there today and were hoping to ski tomorrow. My kids were very disappointed to hear the news. But at least we get a few good days in after stuffing ourselves.

Genuinely sorry to hear, Eggraid, but any pre-Thanksgiving skiing in the mid-A (even if by a single day) is about as big a gamble as eating that dip on Friday that got left out Thanksgiving night....  There have been years when I've had mid-January conditions Thanksgiving week, but those are by far the exeption (at least in my experience).

Hopefully you guys are staying through the weekend?

And Thanksgiving is early this year!  Kudos to Snowshoe on being able to open the Friday after day,

Oh, yes, we stayed through the weekend and got some good runs in on Friday and Saturday. It wasn't as crowded on the limited slopes as I thought it would be, especially on Saturday. We own a condo there, so it's not that big a deal, we went for some hikes on Wed and Thanksgiving. We will be heading back in mid-December, again with our fingers crossed!
