With the large snowmaking window both CV and TL should be laying down considerable snow!  Status? Opening dates? Trails?

visual sightings?

Canaan has never wavered from their opening on the 14th

T-line said it would be the 7th but has now moved theirs to the 14th  (according to their Facebook page)

not sure about the forecast middle of next week till then, but barring a warmup they both should have good conditions

Canaan Valley Resort posted this update a few days ago.  Tubing and ice skating are already open during weekends and will be open full-time for the season beginning December 15 when the ski slopes open.  Canaan Valley Resort says they plan to have 10 slopes ready to go for opening day, including Timber Trail.

Timberline has started making snow and states that their current projected opening date is December 14.

I work at Canaan Ski School.  If things go well they will have several trails from the top open on the 15.  I live at the base of Timberline and for the life of me cannot tell.  Their snowmaking is sporatic as are the lift issues they are working to correct. They may be open on the 14th if inspections are completed by that time.  The boil water notice is still in effect and may not be lifted before opening date so bring your own water or check to see if any announcements are made referencing that. Word on the notice is that it's precautionary and since we are using the water for everything except drinking and haven't died yet, you should be fine if you use one of the affected properties in the valley.   We had 6" of natural yesterday and may have that much again tonight with lake effects.  If in doubt go to White Grass.  Chip would love it.

Reported elsewhere. That may be optimistic. Some more “unconfirmed rumors” from the T-Line mafia:

https://www.wdtv.com/content/news/Timberline-Four-Seasons-CEO-arrested-for-year-of-unpaid-taxes-502695042.html

Heard about it first from some banned posters here. There used to be a lot of positives to say about T-Line. There has been pretty much nothing good to say in the past few years - coming from a decade long defender of the place.

And there are other investigations out there.

Adios.

Sounds like they should have used some of that recapitalization money they got to pay their taxes.  Really stupid to go to jail for such a low amount.

Their mountain/area operations are smaller this year than ever before.

And per the psc documents, there are *allegations* of improper transfers from utility to affiliates on the order of six figures. So, tip of iceberg.

This really is heart breaking. I've been going there since I was in high school, which is in excess of 30 years. It is by far my favorite "local" hill. The place was never over crowded like Snowshoe of 7S can be, and a great vertical for the region it's in.

Skiings looks decent at CVR. They're still skiing from the top for the time being, lots of rain this evening.

Timberline plans to open tomorrow with very limited trails. BWN lifted.

And a short plea for help. If you weren't aware, the J1 folks that came up from South America to work at Timberline are transitioning out of the Valley (~5 folks) and about 15 folks are transitioning from Timberline to CVR (speculations on why abound). Many are in need of housing and/or food currently and some needs may persist through the winter season. If you are able to help out please reach out via PM and I will get you in contact with those coordinating the effort to help these kids out. They have also established an account at a local bank to help feed them while they transition into their new jobs.

The people of Tucker County have really done some amazing things over the past few days for these kids. Kudos to CVR for interviewing and hiring all of them that wanted to stay in the Valley! It's sad that it had to come to something like this but great to see there are still some good people out there.

For those still keeping score.

Timberline extended their season passes from this year through next year. What good is that going to do??

Per their Facebook, they've officially failed their 2nd inspection by the health department due to persist living creatures of some sort.

I know that to heed Scott's guidelines for these forums, many of us took the discussion on Timberline to another venue.  However, I would have thought that a bankruptcy filing by one of the core ski areas covered by DC Ski would have merited some discussion or even a news article.  No?

Bankruptcy is only a low-end-local’s rumor.  I’m happy the rumors over the years have been validated.

Multiple receiverships, bankruptcy, a pill mill along with other alleged crimes”¦”¦”¦nothing more to say.

TL is dead until all the legal stuff plays out.  Will take years.

Timberline is now officially for sale, o’clock-stoc ad barrel,  as per an announcement by the owners, all assets included, everything!!!!  FRED HERZ BIDS FAREWELL.  From Ski Area Management magazine:

SAM Magazine””Davis, W.Va., July 24, 2019 ””"Timberline Four Seasons Resort is initiating the sale process for substantially all of the resort's assets. Timberline commenced voluntary Chapter 11 proceedings in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on April 30, 2019, and expects to sell the company’s assets pursuant to Section 363 of the Bankruptcy Code.
See SAM’s recent report for background on what led to Timberline Four Seasons’ status.

Fred Herz, Timberline president, said: “We are incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to purchase a raw mountain in Tucker County, West Virginia, over 30 years ago and grow it into the premier destination for mid-Atlantic and southeast skiers."He continued, "After some challenging seasons, our family has chosen to exit its investment in West Virginia in cooperation and consultation with Griffin Financial Group," which is serving as investment banker for the sale. "We believe it is the right time to pass Timberline on to new ownership."

Assets included in the sale process and available to potential buyers include:

- the full ski resort operations
- all equipment and facilities associated with the ski resort””lifts, snowmaking equipment, 24,000-square-foot lodge, 20-room hotel, rental inventory, etc.
- real estate assets of more than 430 acres, including ski terrain, the base area and hotel, approximately 222 acres of development land adjacent to the mountain, and ski-in/-out residential property plots.

Ciardi Ciardi & Astin and Bielli & Klauder are serving as legal counsel.Interested buyers should contact Griffin Financial Group at zlc@griffinfingroup.com."

Interesting...
