I am thinking about a trip to Wisp this weekend.  Any comments about the conditions?

It will be pretty warm on Friday and some rain.  The cold front rolls through Friday nite and the temps drop to the 20's and the hill gets a hard freeze.  Minimal warming on Saturday and Sunday so no corn inducing thaw.  Unless they blow snow you can plan on skiing frozen granular to scraped off ice.  In other words it will suck.

Ample opportunity to use some of the skiing on ice tips from an earlier thread.

Hence, a Friday spent canning corn will get me through the weekend with a good taste in my mouth and besides...the Blackwater Classic is just around the corner.  The bike is in my mechanic's garage getting prepared for the next season.  See you at W@W?

I am curious if anyone does Wisp as a day trip from northern VA.

Three hours out, ski for four hours, three hours back, two hours of "other" stuff (loading, unloading, changing, eating).

Long day. But do-able?

Not Wisp specifically, since I am further out than 3 hrs from there, but I have done many, many day trips to SS and CV/TL which are 3 hours from my house. I think it is very doable. I usually try to be on the road by 5:45.

That math works for me, have done many 3-hour day trips, and will likely do another 1-2 after my local hills close.

If I was within three hours of Wisp I would absolutely go this weekend... compared to my NC options?  no contest
