thanks. Love this post. I'd be a surfer if I could swim decently, and were say 50 years younger.
Only a surfer knows the feeling...dropping in since 1973 and have surfed at least once every year since...yew!

A good friend had to see her Aunt in Ponte Vedra Fl. she was in home hospice situation. We drove thru the night got to Fl. border where we got thru the inspection station 😓 dropped my friend off and headed to Mickler's Landing beach as a friend told me about.
it is a hidden gem, surf was green all week great for stand up paddling and surfing.
very nice people there a guy told me how to look for sharks teeth, I had a pair of reading glasses that were tinted for the sun and I was surprised at all the teeth I found
my friend made it to the beach and she said her uncle said theirs sharks around, I said "surfers don't talk about sharks "
not sure if that is true but it works for me.
the parking is free they have bathrooms outside shower, changing rooms , and some parking spots with shade that changes through the day, I checked Google earth before going to check out the shade shadows , got to go early to get good spot, lot starts to fill around 11 , not a lot of parking. The area is mostly private huge houses but Micklers is tucked in between and was easy to social distance there
a gopher turtle walked up towards us on the beach, it's dog friendly, my friend had her little dog with us.
one afternoon we drove to Jacksonville pier beach but found our little hide away much better.
driving back we saw a very tall turkey on the side of rt 95 it looked cartoonish it was tall and thin, my friend looked it up I forgot the name. on way home Sat the line going south at the Fl border checkpoint was very long 5 miles or so
Thanks for the report VT. I've been to that beach. My wife has relatives that live in south Jacksonville. Fancy homes and golf courses in that vicinity. And you are right, nicer than beaches closer to downtown Jville.
I was interested in your comments about border check at FL. Is that the only state along I95 doing that? In a few weeks I have to make the drive back from UT to VA and hope I don't encounter stoppages like that.
I have done ocean paddle boarding in NC a number of times. Catching waves with a paddle board is a black diamond skill, beyond my ability, but on a calm day I can have fun puttering around outside the break. Have a brother who owns a beach house and does all the surfing/paddleboading/kayaking stuff in the sea and he shares his toys:-)
