Samuel F. dug up some information on C-Bar-H Ranch, a lost ski area in New Jersy. He reports that it operated as a practice slope during at least the 1950s, and likely had a rope tow, although he hasn’t confirmed that yet. He isn’t sure about the history of the ranch itself, but believes that skiing operations stopped at some point before 1969.
He reports that it was run by Zeke Curtis and Enos “Cy” Harker, which is where the name came from. The ranch originally opened in 1937, although he’s not sure of the exact date skiing was offered.
He found a brochure about the area on-line and shared the following images with DCSki.
“The exact location has been very difficult to pin down, but my best guess is that it was located on Cy’s farm which was probably just north of the intersection of Old Mine Road and Kuhn Road,” Samuel writes. “I’m not sure exactly where the practice slope was, but it couldn’t have been more than 100 vertical feet. My suspicion is that it might be on the southernmost section of farmland, very near the river. In the one image of skiers shown in the brochure, you can see the slope get more and more narrow towards the bottom (behind and left of the skiers) with a line of trees, which kind of matches this location.”
