I spent about 3 hours at Snowshoe this morning. They got at least 6" overnight. It was snowing lightly when we got there and started to pick it up when we were leaving. Great day of skiing, although by the time the 3 of us got there (too many trucks on 219 this morning) it was fairly skied up. You really had to search for some fresh tracks. There was snow laying around everywhere on most of the trails (I'd say they groomed late last night), but some ice in between the piles, although it was still edgable (sp?).
Anything that wasn't groomed was OK, but you really had to stay on top because if you got to deep you got down to last week's boiler plate. The Western Territory skied great. Lower Shay's was a lot of fun too. Haven't groomed it since the other day. It was starting to get some small bumps and lots of snow piles.
It was quite chilly so I didn't manage to take any pictures. I didn't hold my iPhone out to record that last little bit of our last run. The quality really sucks, but you can at least get an idea of the conditions. You can also really see how it was snowing at the end of the run, which was roughly around 1:30pm.
I took the GPS unit I use for cycling out to see how it did. Here's the data from that. After getting warmed up it seemed to keep some fairly accurate info. Kinda neat... http://connect.garmin.com/activity/62376297
Here's a funny pic I took on the way home of WVDOH hard at work just south of Marlinton, on 219. Something tells me that the safety guy called in sick this morning. Not only does that not look safe, not a one of those dudes had on hearing protection.
Do you ever Ski when its Warm david?...40 degree Bluebird?..I think it Might have gotten up to the low teens for you today...You like Cold?..Head here.... Verhojansk, Russia -66 °F
I was there today. Watched em groom the south mtn . last night from the condo at top of the world from about 5- 8 PM.Posted up there for the rope drop this morn.. About 4-5 inches of super fluffy pow on top of the groomers for first tracks , little deeper on the edges.
man, those garmin plots are amazing. i had no idea they were that cool. i'm sold!
you could really map out a good trail map with one of those things, or better yet, Brook could take one of those off trail and we could find his stashes. doooo it.
OK ...TODAY = Saturday...2(two) degrees and windy-as-sin.
The idea that Snowshoe has finally priced itself OOB may be witnessed by the fact that on a Saturday with fresh snow ... Ballhooter = NO ONE...ski up/sit on the lift!!! This place is empty!

With a Snowshoe season pass you can go to Whistler and actually ski >8,000 acres for the same lift ticket price as you would pay to ski Snowshoe's couple hundred.
In Japan they just paid a record price for a bluefin Tuna that fetched $396,000...It would have cost a boat in NC about $100 to catch it..No further Questions your Honor..
Yeh..i'm on the weekend watch here at DcSkI..pay sucks...
