So, we had everything by the door packed and ready to go this morning when the schools (Mont county) announced there was only a 2 hour delay. So much for the planned ski trip. On top of it, I checked the Blue Knob web page and - in my groggy-eyed state - thought they were announcing 4-6 inches of snow.

I go to work and check the Blue Knob page and see they are posting 8-10 inches of snow. Not sure if they updated it or I just didn't read it right the first time.

So here's my question, think it is worth taking a day off to ski there tomorrow (Wed)? Not sure how much traffic they will get today or any other variables so I thought I'd tap the collective wisdom for some direction.

Even if the powder hounds come out today and tomorrow you should still have a great day, maybe even find some untracked. The snowmaking trails were well covered and the snow started heavy and wet. Good for coverage, not to good for powder. Scroll up to Mdskier's post #64 for a report from Sunday in this thread on EpicSki: Mid-Atlantic GTG @ Blue Knob Feb. 26-27, 2011

Thanks for the link and the info!

The last time I skied Blue Knob was back in 1992 before I knew how to ski. I spent the afternoon floundering on the bunny hill and the liftie said to me after noting all the snow on me "you know son, you gotta leave some of the snow on the ground". I ended up shadowing a little kids class and finally learned about "pizza pies and french fries". It took me over a decade to try skiing again after that experience!

ARGGGG! I've gone from having an open schedule tomorrow to having a series of conference calls and a data set that needs crunching in a program I'm unfamiliar with.

Thanks for the input and encouragement but it looks like I'll be working (which of course is not a bad thing when you consider the alternative!)

Consider joining us this weekend at Blue Knob just for a day, ormight even be able to put you up for the night for a small fee if you want to ski two days.

Thanks for the offer Jim!! I've always wanted to join up with you guys but this weekend is completely booked (I can't complain as its a lot of neat activities). That's one of the reasons I was looking to get out during the week.

On the bright side, a meeting in Calgary in April is starting to materialize. If it happens, it will be the third year in a row that work has made it possible for me to ski Banff!

Were you talking to a snowboarder with a plaid jacket at the top of the Mtn at 9:55 -- 10? If so that was me. Had to be you, there wasn't anyone else there.!I had a really good first impression of Blue Knob ,yesterday was my first day there. Thanks for the tips. Must return when there is more coverage in those glades!

Brook! Sorry I was in such a hurry to get in my 2nd run that I didn't wait for you at the chair. Couldn't find you afterwards. Glad you had a good first day there. Other than the thin coverage in the glades, BK was "on" yesterday.

Wanted to stop and take a few pics on that first run down. Patrol was opening the rope to Stembogan right on cue as you suggested on the second lap.!Good perspective on your pic. of that area by capturing the turns below. Lets hope for a couple snowy surges in March!

Missed this one, would have bagged it if not for a 2 week ski safari I start today.

You two should really make next year's BK GTG. Always the weekend after President's.

Woody,

Smart man! Hit it when the snow is good, because in the Mid Atlantic, it generally doesn't last. This week is a classic example.

Too bad this thing called work seems to periodically interfere with my snow chasing plans.

Just dumb luck a couple of times this season, JimK. Work sometimes keeps me off the runs on weekends but will free up an occasional morning or day during the week. Blue Knob made up for earlier rain-outs at Wisp and Sno Mtn.

'Sounds like the base at Blue Knob was enough to show the group a good time this weekend. smile Glad to hear it!
