Looks like we'll be making white flakes by Tuesday night! This is no gun test, guns are plugged in, hoses on and standby lights on, even a chance to hit the teens wed night. Here we go...baby (maybe).
Looks like the guns have run about 36 + hours straight as of this AM (11/2/23)
Love it!

Does anyone know any good nightlife happening at snowshoe on NYE? Any bars that have events? The events on their website seemed to be geared towards kids mostly. Thanks!
Nothing advertised yet. I'd expect Tuques, Locker Room, Old Spruce Tavern & Hoots will all be hopping into the new year.
Looking good! Haul rope is on ready to load and load test chairs. Any volunteers?
Anyone know the latest on the former Shavers Center site?
I know they moved the cafeteria and whatever else to the lower level of Mountain Lodge.
Is the old Shavers location just bare ground now?
Is there still fencing around it?
The webcam doesn't really show it.
Bare ground, no fence. Hopefully it's rebuilt next summer.

Snowshoe to officially open this Saturday, Dec. 2nd.
Ballhooter, Skidder, and Powderidge, serving 8+ trails
And Progression Terrain Park. Tune 'em up!
Also, bet that the new POWDER MONKEY lift will debut this weekend!
It has been a long time coming, it looks great and they pulled it off just in time, great recovery Snowshoe!
We ate at Tuques last night. They started grooming the whales around the top of the PM lift while we were there. AM snow report says IT WILL BE OPEN THIS WEEKEND.

It was always planned to open mid December.
One thing I noticed today was that the conveyor loading platform seemed to be mostly covered at the bottom.

On the events section in the app it says there will be a celebration at the bottom of powder monkey at 10am Friday.
The "rumor" on the Snowshoe Visitors FB group is Friday.....
Huge whales at the bottom near Arbuckles today.

The new Powder Monkey lift seems to be causing problems for beginners / people unfamiliar with the new loading method (gates and conveyor belt), leading to lots of empty chairs and long lines. Will be interesting to see how long the learning curve ends up being on it.
In my experience when a resort installs conveyor loading, the issue is that the lifties may not know how to coach people to do the right thing. Beginners sometimes pick it up faster than people who are very comfortable loading a fast fixed-grip chair. The advanced skiers at Alta hated the old Supreme chair when conveyor loading was added. They were the ones who kept moving so fast that they would end up off the loading zone before the chair reached them.
If the more experienced folks loading Powder Monkey don't know what to do, then they may well tell any beginners with them the wrong approach.
Massanutten added conveyor loading quite a while ago. While beginners still mess up, the beginner chairs stop less than they did before.
Skied them today. Side to side coverage on both. A little icy with patches of powder. Sat had snow over to some brief rain that froze up a bit last night.
Snowed all day today. This afternoon it became very windy. 6PM still snowing.
Looking forward to Monday's conditions.

Snowshoe was incredible today. Bluebird skies, no wind, NO CROWDS. It was like we were at a private resort
Rope drop at 9 AM
Snow making started on upper Ballhooter
Top of Cupp Run

Those exact words I said to my wife except I added we invited a few friends.
Even with a slow start to the ski season the Shoe continues to open more runs every couple days.
Hidden valley had a conveyor system. It didnt work well at all. They eventually stopped trying to use it the last I was there.

Snowshoe: a challenge to get to, but worth it once you're there....
Altitude and Western Territory put it on the map, and it's
Snowmaking keeps it going strong!
Ski the Shoe, Ski WV.
Ballhooter webcam looks significantly better as of 2pm... No line at all at Western.
The Timberline cam didn't look too bad either, wonder how long the wait is there?
I'm sure temps / wind are keeping a lot of folks away. Wonder how crowds will be Sun/Mon?

Now that I've been to a bunch of hills that have RFID gates, I'm wondering when the Shoe will get them.
At this point, also possible to have hand scanners for RFID lift access cards. Have seen that process in action at several smaller mountains as well as Grand Targhee in recent years.
I found out last season that one of those machines that can spit out an RFID card when someone purchases a lift ticket online in advance costs about $60K.
Was Powder Monkey a triple before, and now it’s a quad? Wish it would move faster…
Was there another rationale for the new parking system other than “we want your money”?
Bought a half gallon of milk at Wildcat Provisions for $8. Holy moly! That Bidenflation is really hitting hard,
To Mongo: Yes, PM was a triple, now a quad; but not enough runout at the top to make it faster,
And they need this type of lift just in case things get icy and the high-speeds can't operate.
Parking is cash, and milk for kids and cereal is necessary in the am.
Yes, Powder Monkey was a triple, I guess the change to a fixed-grip quad gets an extra 1,000 skiers per hour up the mountain, and they didn't want to do a high-speed quad because if they have high winds or ice they want at least some of the lifts to not have to shut down. The prices at Wildcat have always been high, that's nothing new, I guess when your next option is a grocery store 90 minutes away they've got the market cornered, lol.

Ha! Shays has been around for about 25 years.
Regarding new trails off Cupp, we were told it fizzled out due to money and the endangered Cheat Mountain salamander.

Wasn’t that built in the late 90s With the high-speed quad?
That’s not exactly new.
there are rumors that they have plans to cut more trails on the western side, other than cupp and shays.

egg - there now are 2 options (Par Mar & Dollar General) located 10min away at the base....near The Inn
So the cheat mountain salamander wasn’t an issue in the late 90s but it is now?
if they wanted to build new trails on the western side, I’m sure they would get it done. They just don’t want to spend the money. Replacing some of the original lifts on the basin side is probably a bigger priority.

Wildcat prices were always high but not THAT high. I didn't want to drive down to the Par Mar because the weather was terrible. I'd taken the bus to Wildcat and by the time I got there I wasn't going to go back and dig my car out. Had I but known about the $8 milk before I got on the bus I sure would have driven down the hill. Painful lesson learned!

24 Hours of Snowshoe -- that was a cool race! I covered that race in 2003 (with my fancy new digital camera, which let me post the story directy from the mountain).
Hey Red, wanna go with us next weekend!? michelle has extra passes

Were there no bumps on lower Shay's Revenge on the Western side? They usually let half of that trail bump up.

Just had a great weekend at the Shoe. Clear skies, not too crowded (especially Sunday). Could actually have wished it was a little colder just to keep things going, but the snow was actually nice (soft but not sloppy). My son grumbled about the lack of moguls on any of the blacks but he’s been spoiled by Utah and Killington this season.
On Saturday all of Lower's Shays was icy as hell. The bumps were pure ice and the groomed side had some snow with a lot of thin sheets of ice and no top coat. Would not be surprised if they pushed them out to get a fresh start. They started to let bumps form over on Knot Bumper. Cupp and Choker had some good "clumps" but this was from skiers and snowboarders pushing the snow around.

Things are looking even better this AM with NOAA now calling for 5-10". If the low developes off the Delmarva like the models are predicting we should be on the high end of the totals. Almost a perfect forecast for this President's weekend!
Here's some POV video showing the trails and moguls from yesterday.

Yes! We are planning to be there all weekend. I can't believe they are blowing snow like crazy to save the remainder of the season.
The SHOE and Alterra deserve some big Kudos for this!!!!!!!
Let's all go have fun and support this mountain this weekend.

Anyone planning on being there this weekend? Trying to decide if I want to spend $100 on a ticket for a final day of skiing this season.
They just announced that if you bring a season pass from another resort that has closed for the season you can get 25% of a ticket. Lower Shays was really good this afternoon once it warmed up above 30 and the sun was hitting it. Soft steep hero snow.
Cool. Where did you see this?

Cool. I will not know if I can go this weekend until the last minute so it would be nice to not pay the full window price....what is the full price these days? Hard to tell on the snowshoe site with the dynamic pricing.
How am I only learning about this place now? Tbf I don't get out to Snowshoe much
