As March arrives, we're unfortunately reaching that time of year when Mid-Atlantic resorts begin to close ski operations. I'm starting this thread as a place to share official closing dates.
Temperatures are currently forecast to climb into the low 60s by the end of next week at many areas.
In Virginia, the Omni Homestead announced that this weekend (February 28 - March 1, 2026) will be the final weekend their snow sports area is open for the season.
If you see a resort officially announce their planned closing date, please feel to share it in this thread.
No official announcements yet, but Wintergreen is currently selling lift tickets through Sunday, March 15, and Wisp through Sunday, March 22. Nothing available after those dates at either PGRI resort. Usually a good indicator.
Hatley Pointe NC has announced that it will wrap up its winter season on Saturday, March 7 with its annual pond skim.
Woody
Mnut selling tickets daily thru March 15 and then for the weekend of March 20-22. No official word on closing date that I have heard. Several days of temps in the 70's predicted to start next week, hopefully no heavy rain in the mix.
Update from Mnut: open daily thru March 8 and then the following 2 weekends.

Silver Creek at Snowshoe closes 3/8.
Snowshoe continues until 3/22 this season.
From SkiSoutheast today about closing dates.

Thank you for posting this, BaySailor. I had planned to go skiing on Friday and would not have known they weren't opening but for your post!
I totally get that with the warm temps the next few days, management would not want people skiing on a deteriorating base, in the hopes of preserving conditions for the closing weekend.
However, a cold front is supposed to move in Thursday afternoon, overnight lows will actually go below freezing, and Friday morning will be 30's/40's before getting into the 50's in the mid- to late-afternoon.
So I wish they (or Liberty) would open Friday.
Not only that, I am a teacher in the DCPS system, and DCPS is off Friday for students and teachers. So this would have been my one non-weekend, non-holiday day of the year. (By the way -- any other forumites who work for or have kids in DCPS?)
I wrote a note to both Liberty and Whitetail customer service noting the above points, and they basically said, sorry, tough luck, but you can go to Roundtop on Friday-- which to me is a long haul for a day trip from DC, especially for marginal conditions. I may have to do that though as I have conflicting events over the weekend...

Are you wed to Vail/Epic Pass resorts? Massanutten, Wintergreen, Wisp, Timberline, and Bryce are all open on Friday. Bryce is maybe 30 mins further than Liberty from DC and is a great day trip option!

Yes, Nate, I should have mentioned I am limited to Epic as I have one day pass left for this season.

Yup, looks like Roundtop it'll have to be. Longer than I'd like to drive for a day (4 hours total), but so be it.
I still think Epic is selling their DC clientele short by not opening at least *one* of Liberty/Whitetail on Friday. I bet they could have even made some money with some creative sales to the DCPS market.

Roundtop will be open all week. Its only half an hour further.
Whitetail appears to finished. I don’t see how they open this weekend.
7 Springs webcam this morning, not sure how they open either

Kinda crazy how well roundtop is doing
Hmm, didn't realize how many webcams Roundtop has these days. Just watched a few people make their way down the thin white strip all the way down skier's left.
.GUSTY WINDS THIS AFTERNOON... Gusty winds of 35 to 40 mph are expected this afternoon, with isolated gusts in excess of 45 mph possible. Higher wind gusts could occur within thunderstorms. These gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Use extra caution when driving this afternoon, especially if operating a high profile vehicle.

This looks good to you? Doesn't look much better than the Whitetail pics, or maybe I'm missing something. Of the 3 Epic hills nearest DC, Liberty webcams look best right now.

To be honest that doesn't look worth driving two hours there and back for me on Friday. I may have to leave an Epic day unused.
Whitetail just posted the following update (they won't be open this weekend, although Liberty still plans to be):
Spring rolled in early and hit the “quick melt” button![]()
But here’s the bright side: we had an AMAZING season together! Thank you for every visit, every run, and every mountain memory.
With all the sunshine (and those surprise thunderstorm cameos), our snow pulled a disappearing act — so we won’t be able to open this weekend.
Even though spring cut our final‑laps short, we’re still so grateful for all the fun, laughs, and turns we shared on the slopes!
Looking to sneak in a few more spring laps? Our sister resort, Liberty Mountain, will be open this weekend!Liberty Hours Of Operation
Sat. March 14 | 8AM – 4PM | Epic Passholder Appreciation Day
Sun. March 15 | 8AM - 4PM | Closing Day
We appreciate every lap, every smile, and everyone who rode with us. To our incredible crew who worked tirelessly all winter to create the best experience possible, you made this season special.
Stay tuned! We’ll be sharing a season recap soon, highlighting all the “Whitetail Wow” moments that made this winter unforgettable.
Thank you for understanding. We appreciate the community that makes this mountain what it is.See you next winter!

Yeah, Liberty looks better, but the fact that both Liberty and Round Top are doing better than 7 Springs is kinda crazy. Also, the other cams look a bit better.
As stated HV last day is Sat 3/14. Many days of 60+ degrees with rain on top - not sure how it remained this white, tbh. Other than pond skim, also not sure how skiable any of this is. Tighten your boots / tune your skis?

Timberline plans to stay open daily until March 22. Snowguns have been on all day on March 12.
Perfect North closed after last weekend. Could well be that some midwest folks will make the drive for late season skiing in WV. Instead of heading west to Colorado.
Timberline Snow Report - March 12, 2026
Timberline Mountain is open for skiing and snowboarding today from 9am to 4:30pm.
We saw a dusting of natural snow this morning. You'll find soft, spring skiing conditions today and all open terrain has been machine groomed.Upper Almost Heaven is now closed for the season. The Drop, Off the Wall, Twister, and Upper Dew Drop are closed this morning but may reopen after Mountain Ops makes snow today.
The forecast for today calls for a high of 32 and a low of 22 with cloudy skies.
Timberline Mountain will remain open 7 days a week through Sunday, March 22nd. Operational status beyond March 22nd has yet to be determined.
Round top Doesn't look like there is a way left off the lift to access any of the blue terrain. The lip at the top of Minuteman is dirt. If they could get some snow to cover the lip it would be skiable. Send the groomers out to gather snow and spread it out. It looks skiable except for the top 10 feet.
There might be a way to ski right off the lift to get to greens.
Just looked at the RT webcam, and it looks like they've made snow on Minuteman and covered the lip. It'll be skiable tomorrow.

And Massanutten also pulls the plug:

So much for that March 21-22 Bonus Weekend! Was looking forward to using my Indy Pass for one of those days. Oh well, this spring warmup has been such a bummer after such a fun winter!
You can still use your Indy Pass at Bryce this weekend if you haven't used them.

Bryce is not only going to be open March 14-15, they are continuing daily operations for as long as they can. Always a bit colder at Bryce than at Massanutten. I had a good time using Indy there on March 4 to check out the new backside trails.
Bryce is offering a 50% discount for anyone with a season pass to any other resort.

They have a closing festival this weekend.
The pond skim and other "end of season" special events were on March 14. They had to cancel the Massanutten Employee gathering. Maybe trying to have a slope or two open for that.
I have to say, this season was the first time I've ever snow skied at Bryce (my prior visits were all for grass skiing, many, many moons ago), and I was actually angry at myself for not having skied there before. I was there twice this year, and my wife was there for an additional day, and they were all amazing ski days. It's limited terrain, for sure, and it's probably never going to be a bell-to-bell sort of place for us, but we had a great 4-5 hours of fun skiing every time we were there. It was actually a major factor in our decision to get the Indy Pass for next season, since it will be somewhat freeing to feel like we can go when the getting is good, rather than worrying about whether it's worth spending the money to go there on any given weekend (if we burn out our two visits, I'll have no heartburn about buying additional days).
I don't know if anyone from Bryce reads this forum, but they should know that it really is a gem, and I'm sad I haven't made better use of it over the last 20+ years I've been in the area. Can't wait to go back next season.
FWIW, I'll also say that the Detroit-style pizza at the Pale Fire pub just outside the resort is worth a stop, too...

My first time skiing Bryce was because of the Indy Pass. Did a day trip from Massanutten during my timeshare week in early January. Had a good time in the morning. Then a fabulous lunch in the sit-down restaurant.
With the new lift on the backside, I'm quite likely to head there to use Indy every season. Especially if there has been enough snow to have bumps grow on the trail next to the backside lift.

Today (Saturday March 21) on Facebook;
* Bryce announced that today will be their final day of the season for skiing and snowboarding
* Timberline announced that their last day will be Sunday March 22
Great efforts at both resorts, in my opinion. Many thanks to all!

Blue Mountain in PA was pretty decent last weekend apparently. $20 lift tickets for folks with a season pass elsewhere. Scuttlebutt is that Blue is hoping for a couple more weekends.
I heard about Blue Mountain's offer today ... pretty cool and smart that they're making that offer. I've never been there, Are they just not on any "pass structure" or just independent?
Switch to the beginning of season - long, long ago, Hidden Valley offered "free skiing" on I _think_ the day after Thanksgiving, black friday. Was an early season. The lines were something to behold!

Blue Mountain and Camelback joined Ikon in 2023-24. Technically not owned by Alterra. The two resorts are owned and operated by KSL Resorts, which is a separate company with ties to KSL Capital that helped to create Alterra in 2018. KSL Resorts mostly has golf and beach resorts.

Nice freeze in the mid-A for first 1/2 of season. But then snowmaking slowed down. Natural wasn't spectacular, just one 12" hit in the laurels -among many other 5-6" hits. Bases were not 30", but 15-20"... Weak sustained snowmaking over the cold snap (which was a month long at least). Also, not a commitment to the latter part of the season, choosing to close when staff gets thin and patronage drops off. Not all bad, though, a better season - to me - than the last 3 or 4 seasons.
15" - 20" is being generous......
At least is some places......

The mid Atlantic isn't the only place that had a rough March. Pretty much the entire U.S. didn't do too well. Here's a video I made from Breck on Saturday that shows some of the struggles. I've never seen such thin cover out West in the middle of March. This is the price we pay for such unusually sustained cold that we received. Call it conservation of cold energy.
I'm mostly trying not to blow out an edge on my precious mogul skis. I should have brought rock skis. First part is on a double black on E lift line, then the second is a blue mogul run.

The Rockies, PacNW, and California, including Tahoe, are having a disastrous season from a snow and financial standpoint. In contrast, the northeast is having a great season when it comes to snow conditions. Presumably the resorts have done well financially as well because there were people who cancelled flights to SLC or Denver and just drove to a destination resort in VT, NH, or ME instead.
For a list of resorts in the west that are closing early by a week or more:
A List Of All The Western U.S. Ski Resorts Closing Earlier Than Expected - first published March 19, 2026
I know people who are having a grand time at Banff to ski Sunshine and Lake Louise. One friend from TN didn't decide where to go until a few weeks ago. Normally she would go to Mammoth or Alta for a late season trip.
